More Lowell Financial issues

Hi all,

I have received a letter from the infamous Lowell Financial claiming that I owe them >£900. This was a fraud case from 2007 where, to cut a long story short, a cheque sent by the bank was intercepted in transit and cashed at a money-lending place. It was reported to the police and I have a crime reference number. I eventually got the bank to re-issue the cheque (after complaining to the Financial Ombudsman) but evidently this Money Spot place have sold the debt on to Lowell since they paid out on the cheque to the fraudster which the bank then didn't honour.

I explained this to them on the phone yesterday and they said that they'd sort it out but given what I've read about this company and their methods of chasing even small amounts, I'm worried that their not going to let this go and it will be on my credit reference or that they'll sell on the debt to yet another company and I'll be plagued with this again in the future.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can ensure that this is closed once and for all? I'm planning to write a letter including the crime reference number but I'm worried that I'll somehow implicate myself by doing that.

Many thanks for any advice.

Dont just Quote a Crime Ref, photocopy any correspondence you had from the Police and send them that as proof. They can be gits for just deciding that you are making up a story.

Send with a letter explaining that it was all dealt with via the Police and the Oft/FOS and that you will be checking to see if they have made ( or make ) any entries on your Credit File. ANY detrimental information put on your file or into the public domain will result in immediate Complaint to the Ombudsman and appropriate Legal action. Fraud e.g if they still try their luck after you have provided them with the Crime Ref.

Dont put up with any crap from them.
