Good result on C&G mortgage

While searching moneysupermarket, L&C etc for current rates, to see if remortgaging might be an option, I happened to notice that my current lender, C&G, had a phone-only offer of a tracker at base+0.39% with no setup fee. I'm currently on base+0.64%, which in June last year was the best tracker rate they had, and cost me £199 to switch from my original discounted rate.
So I give them a ring, check if there are any bear pits, ie fees, penalties etc, and ask "is there any reason why I can't be on this rate". To which the answer was "I can change you over immediately, you'll be on the new rate from next month".
Not bad - £27 saving a month for 2 years, that's £648 for 10 minutes work. Mind you that won't stop me remortgaging, especially if I can sell my endowment and get my LTV down (see other thread). It does suggest that it's worth checking your mortgage lender's website every 6 months or so to see what's going.

Well that's a result... sounds like you were on their standard variable rate. When I got my C&G mortgage the broker made a point of recommending them for the fact that they made it relatively easy to switch between deals, and in making deals available to both existing and new customers - although I'm not sure this is the problem it one was with most lenders.0
