When should a default be registered?

Hi there

I am hoping for some advice if possible please. I am on a DMP, and have been since 2007. I have recently checked my credit file, and one of my creditors has defaulted me, but only one year ago! I thought they had to default me as soon as I was in arrears?
I am trying to clear up my credit file as much as possible and am just querying if Lloyds were OK to do this. My file shows arrears, and arrangements to pay, over the last couple of years, then a default last July. I was really hoping to see that the majority of my debts would be dropping off my file over the next year or two.

Does anyone know if this is correct practice? I cannot remember receiving a default notice, but have moved house four times since I started the DMP, so they may not have had my up to date address at the time. Thanks.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

Its a difficult one. The general guidance is when the original agreement has permanently broken down.
Which is often described as usually once a person is between 3 and 6 month in arrears, but its not as clear cut as that.

There is specific guidance relating to a person on a DMP and how that should be dealt with in terms of a default - which varies depending on the proportional size of the monthly payment, compared to the proper payment - distinguishing between low payments and moderate to high payments.

The ICO guidance of filing a default might be worth a read. Filing defaults with credit reference agencies
Although its a contradictory document which seems to allow interpretation in different ways.

You could send them a complaint stating they should have defaulted earlier. You lose nothing and if rejected you can take further.
