    That looks ballpark, saxmund, makes quite a difference doesn't it? :) Equivalent to around a 7% return from the lifeco, which it may struggle to get - and no risk.

    There is free life cover in the policy and to get an exact comparison you should check the cost of replacing it.Of course some people already have enough cover and are paying unnecessarily for something they don't need.

    It is important to work off up-to-date figures otherwise the sale quotes may be too low.

    I don't need life cover - single, no dependants, if that changes I'll review it when it happens. In any case my pension death-in-service will more than cover the mortgage once I have paid £10K off. I will hassle L&G for a bonus statement: however, last year's was dated May so they might not be sent out for a couple of months. Rates have been declared though, and the company that provided the better of the 2 quotes said that they were able to take them into account when providing the quote, however I'm not sure whether to rely on this.
