Collection agency query

Hi all, wondering if you can help
I had a payment arrangement with a debt recovery company and was paying it, missed a payment... caught up with it by sending a cheque..
In the meantime a different company has contacted me, very insistent when I rang that they pay me the balance in full with a card, I naturally refused.

Ive said that unless all parties let me know, in writing who actually is entitled to collect the debt (The utility company and the two different companies) then I wont be paying any more to anyone... I gave both the information on each respective company by phone but the new company was very insistent I pay them...

am I being unreasonable?? where do I stand?

  • Hello,

I recently had this problem myself, i had a payment agreement but i had missed a payment and then received a letter that my debt had been passed on to a doorstep collection company. After about a week of worrying about it i decided to contact the company and they confirmed my details and i have now set up a new standing order agreement to pay them.. it has all worked out fine so far, i have had no more letters or phone calls about the debt and things seem to be going fine.

I don't think your being unreasonable as there is no way anyone would pay two companies for the same debt.

They will always ask you to pay in full by card, then when you say no they will say pay it off in 3 monthly payments and when you say no to that they will say they cant accept anything else but trust me they will take any payment u offer them if you refuse their terms.
