Call from Capquest and victim of fraud

Hi Folks,
I have recently had a call from this company about a debt that I have no knowledge of. They initially call me telling me about a urgent delivery and needed my DOB which I was reluctant to give at first but gave in the end. They then told me that there was an outstanding balance with Next of over a £1000 by some with a name similar to mines at an address in London somewhere. I informed them that I had not lived in London for over 10 years and have never had any debts let alone an dealings with with Next. They said they would go and investigate this.
They called later claiming to be another company again so I got pee'd off  and told them I have no idea about this, so they said that they would send me a letter to take to the police station to get a crime reference number. A few days later I get a letter that is not in my name but in a similar name, so I assumed it was from the company but if it is not in my name then should I even open it. I managed to look at the letter in the light and can vaguely make out that it is an invoice for the amount discussed in the conversation on the phone.
Has anyone been in a similar position before who can advise me on how I should move forward?
