Quick Question about removal on credit report

On my credit report I have an entry that is in default. I understand that they remove this default after 6 years. Is the 6 years date the date from when the account was opened or the default date itself..

Silly question, maybe, but just wanted things to be clearer!
Save in 2013: #166: 9,122.51/[STRIKE]5,000[/STRIKE] 10,000
Interest earned in 2014: £257.61 20/04/14

    From the default date registered. I defaulted on a loan and they didn't issue the notice for 4 years which meant that it showed on my file for 10 years! First 4 years as late/missed payments, last 6 as default. I was furious

    I am fairly sure you could have contested this. Defaults are supposed to be registered within 6 months.
