Income Tax when living abroad

Here's one for all you people knowledgable about income tax.

I know we probably should have thought about this before now here's the situation: between March 2005 and April 2006 both hubby and I were seconded to our company's office in Cairo. We didn't maintain a home in the UK during this time and we only visited the UK for about 40 days during that period. However our wages were paid by the UK part of our company into our UK bank accounts and we paid UK income tax on this.

Does anyone know if there is any possibility of us claiming any tax back as we weren't actually resident in the UK? Or does the fact that we were paid in the UK negate that? Anybody know?
