You can give an entirely accurate reference which you can back up with facts. I'm still amazed at two muppets who I sacked for theft giving me as a referee!0

I think the OP needs to find out what they will say in a reference first and then plan from there. if its just a standard reference then he will not have to worry.
He was late for a 5.30pm start - that is a bit different to being late at 8am!0 -
surely they have done the ref's if you have a start date.0
