Velux Windows

Hi,

Can anyone recommend any good/decent joiner or roofing company to replace two small velux windows in Belfast (South Belfast to be exact BT7)? Recent heavy rain has done some serious damage to our 'cheap' copycat velux windows. I would like to get them replaced before they get even worse! Can you also help how much it'd roughly cost?

Many thanks in advance :j

This puzzles me, I have seen many roof lights installed, Velux and otherwise, few leak unless they have been installed by a fool. How was the roof light damaged by the rain? I am genuinely intrigued.

sorry for the late reply! been away!
well they were fitted around 5yrs ago by a local joiner, they were only small windows so he didn't have to get on the roof (2 1/2 storeys) well that's what he told me at the time, I'm not sure it's true or not. It was alright at the start but after about 6months things started to go wrong. Since then it's been on and off.. From what I've heard from others who came out to fix, he's done some dodgy job also the windows themselves aren't actually Velux or Keylite..

although everyone who came out has told me different solutions and over the years none of them has worked..

so basically I had another pair come out to look at the windows a week ago. they wanted to see where the water was leaking in so they removed the plaster around it so I was left with a bare window over the holiday period and it's been leaking even without the heavy rain. They said if I get the windows, they would replace it, so I went and got two brand new keylite windows and have contacted them but so far I have not heard anything back..

so it looks like, back to the yellow page I go.. isn't there a decent roofer/joiner in Belfast who is free in next couple of days!?! weather forecast is giving me nightmares!! :(

Also would anyone know how much is reasonable for them to charge me?! I already have the windows and flashing to go with it so I guess they would only need to get paid for the labour.. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!

I'm planning on getting two roof windows installed, one that opens and the other that remains permanently closed.

Velux has a "Flat Roof Window" and a "Flat Roof Kerb" which meet my requirements. Are there other brands that do a similar job? Keylite has already been mentioned. Any pro & cons when choosing the manufacturer?

    Thanks
