... has anyone been?

Is it worth a visit? It'd be a long trek but I keep hearing people rave about it.

Yes it's excellent. Got diamond set wedding band as well as my engagement ring for a few hundred less than the cost of just the engagement ring in Bristol. Look back a few pages and there's a big discussion about where to buy engagament rings and the JQ. Can't post link as too awkward on my phone.

Thanks. I'll have a look. Have only just heard of it. Is it like a jewellery supermarket or something?

the jewellery quarter is an area of birmingham where there are lots of jewellery shops and also small manufacturing jewellers with workshops...its located about a 20 min walk from the centre of birmingham, and really easy to get to,either walking ,by train or taxi, not so sure what its like for car parking as ive never taken my car!

there are loads of different shops that sell the complete spectrum of diamonds,so plenty to choose from...if you dont see what you want then usually because so many of them have a workshop you can get things customised fairly easily....if you go on a saturday you may find that some workshops are closed which may mean if you want a particular thing then it might be better to consider a weekday visit or be able to go one saturday and return the following week to collect your purchase.

Personally the downside for me with the jewellery quarter, and others may disagree,is that the amount of diamonds to choose from is absolutley huge, but if you want coloured stones then the choice does become a lot less....but I guess it depends what you are after

Price wise they are incredibly competitive and are happy to haggle on price ....

If you have the option to go then its certainly worth a day out even at least to see the vast selection available

It's definitely worth a visit if you're not too far away or are willing to travel. Just ordered my engagement ring from a shop there called Mitchel and Co. Got a platinum set diamond engagement ring with just over 1 carat of diamond for at least £1000 less than mainstream or high street jewellers. I also got to pick the exact diamond that is going to be my center stone on the ring and if you wanted there are plenty of places that will do a bespoke or custom design for you. There are around 100 jewellers in the jewellery quarter so plenty of choice. Good Luck!
  • There are some lovely places to eat and drink in that part of Birmingham as well so it would make a nice day out.

    Hi,

Yes agree with the above we went for my ring & had loads of choice at a lot better price than the high street. Made a day of it & had a lovely lunch & a glass of wine in the sun:D

Theres plenty of high street metered parking in the area and a small multistorey if that helps.

If you are coming from the City centre its two stops on the metro from Snow Hill which leaves every ten minutes or so. (Used to work in the area.)

Multi storey is no use of you drive a 4x4 ( low height limit) but agree with all above posts, it is well worth the trip

  • I live in birmingham and me and my partner got engaged last week, i needed her engagement ring resized down by one size, we popped up, went into a workshop and asked how much and how long, 30 minutes and 15 quid and it was sorted :)

I asked in the watch workshop in solihull which is a chain and they wanted 40 and to send it away for a week.

Excellent area with some nice cafes etc not really an exciting day out if your not after something but great if you are.
