Moorcroft debt and credit rating

Hiya, I'm a little bit naive to the issues in regards to debt but could really do with some advice. I am currently paying off a debt to moorcroft debt recovery agency that was sold to them from orange phone company. I am trying to find out if I can make them a offer of a settlement although I have been paying them monthly for around 7 months. Also how does this debt effect my credit rating? Will it be wiped clear once I have paid it off? I am 25 and want to try and make sure I can now do what I can to get a good credit rating after making some stupid mistakes at Uni. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
