Cutting cost of wet shaving

Not sure which heading to put this under so .....
Biggest costs are shaving gel/cream/foam and new blades.

Wet the facial area with plain water and then apply the merest smear of liquid hand wash / soap - enough to just cover but not foam. (This does not seem to work with solid soap). Then apply the merest smidgen of your gel or whatever and it will foam up far more than normal.
(For each you will need less than a quarter of an inch of soap / gel instead of three times the amount of gel thus reducing your purchases of gel / foam and you will want soap to wash with in any case.)

For some reason the soap / gel combination does not stick to and clog the blades and you get many more shaves than normal. My present two blade head has done about 30 full face, upper lip and neck shaves and should do a few more.

    Even easier

Buy a decent double edged razor, buy a brush and use shaving cream or soap.

Blades will cost you about £10 for a years worth, a decent razor from Ebay (which will last a lifetime - mine was made in 1959 and will outlive me), a brush for a fiver and shaving cream.

Sorted. Takes a little more time to shave but the shave is better and cheaper.

Those horrible cartridge things advertised by Beckham etc are just a big con.

I'm sure the fellas on here will have their reasons, but I use plain soap on my legs and a bic disposable razor. It seems to shave just fine. I'm not sure why there is all this cult around gillete and the like. As for 'venus' razors, what a bloody rip off....slap some pink plastic on a blokes razor and double the price.

Am not a bloke, but I used to work in Boots many years ago.
A good shaving brush, a good quality solid soap stick, some hot water and a flannel applied over the shaving area, opens pores and softens it all up. And a styptic pen, just in case of a nick. Stops bleeding quickly. And a double edged shaving stick which can have new blades added in when they blunt down. Very cheap once equipment is bought. Dad always did his uncle like that every Sunday. Was a good learning eperience. Or you could go for the folding leathal blade that needs to be stropped to sharpen it. Practice on a ballon first though. If you can shave that and it does not burst - then you should be able to do your face.

My grandad used to shave with a cut-throat razor a badger hair brush and solid soap, I can still remember the smell, he worked in the fishing industry ( when we used to have one ) and always smelled of shaving soap, not fish! I agree about the rip off razors the same goes for celebrity perfume and aftershave, cheap and nasty.
