I do not believe this is necessarily the case. Prior to this whole change, NT members could NOT go free because the parking was borough council and not NT. As a member this peed me off repeatedly.

The NT web site says car parking free to members and also the bus is covered.

They're probably charging to try and make back some of the money they spent on the centre. Which I guess is fair enough in a way, but that's it gone on the 'free-day-out-to-do-list' which is a bummer :(
I may stick to thumbing a lift and a picnic me thinks :D

It's still free to get to the causeway, so it's still on my list for a free day out!

NT members - free parking, free visitor experience, free park and ride if you park at Bushmills.

Have just spoke to someone at the centre and he assures me all car parks are free to NT members.

Yes great if you are a NT member.

But.... If not a NT member and you want a coffee after walk back from causeway, it will be the most expensive coffee you have ever bought! Because you must pay £8.50 for 'Causeway Experience' before you can set foot in the coffee shop.

Same goes for the gift shop. Now how can that be fair?

Good to hear that about NT members... this had really put me off over the last few years.

However, for those who don't like the sound of the fee, there is a way around it. I would typically have gone to the causeway hotel, had availed of their parking and gone and had my cup of tea in the bar there - that was costing much less than a fiver and I don't see any objection as long as you are actually a customer of the hotel (it would not be right to just park there to go to the causeway centre!).
    Always overestimating...
