Engine starts but car won't move...

it shouldnt be a costly job shouldnt really be any parts just some labour so if you have a nice garage then an hours labour max.0

water in the exhaust is a non problem, many many more engines are wreaked by hydro locking due to going too fast and and the bow wave finding it's way into the intake side.
Even at tick over mine is pumping a cubic metre plus of air out through the exhaust every minute and even submerging the exhaust in water isn't going to stop that air flow
And if you try to suck that amount into the intake, I doubt it'll come out of the drain holes in the airfilter strider mentioned.0 -
the brake shoe has " delaminated " from its metal backing, renaults/peugeots/citroens, they all do it, its bonded by glue to the metal backing, over time due to not being checked [ poor servicing regime] age gets the better of it and the shoe literally falls off, jamming the drum on, trying to drive it backwards and forwards will just damage the clutch/ tyre and rear suspension, removal of drum is difficult in this situation, sometimes its scrap [ drum has to be smashed] new brake shoes required AND brake springs [ spring kit ].0

I think you're trying to say keep it in first, or maybe second. Go slowly, but keep the revs up.0

I've never had one do that, in hundreds of thousands of miles in french cars.0 -

I have just been out to my car and managed to free the break, I have been driving round for about 15 mins and it all sounds normal. But do you think I will still need to go garage tomorrow because for this to happen it has to mean there is something needing fixing?
So do you think it is right to go garage still in the morning?
And thank you so much for everyones help0 -

I wouldn't - at the very least they will charge labour to remove the drums and inspect, when it's fairly obvious what the problem was.
To avoid it happening again, try to remember to do a few cycles of heavy braking after a water splash to heat the brakes enough to dry them out.0 -
you have been warned by my previous post0
