Payment plan rejected

I completed an online payment proposal with Walker Love who are pursuing me for Council Tax arrears.

I had offered to pay £70 a month, which realistically with my income etc is all I can afford. Theyve said no and said the minimum theyll accept is £150 theres no way I can afford that.

Where do I go from here??

Send them a letter with a copy of your I&E and again re-iterate you can only afford £70 a month, make a payment of £70 so at least you are showing willing.

It's just bullying tactics hun, they will try to keep badgering you until you give in and agree to the higher amounts, I've had creditors do it to me. You can't afford to pay more than you have offered. x

Im wondering if theres any point in contacting the council direct. WL say if I dont pay theyll recommend the council start bankrupcy proceedings. I wonder if the council would be told by them that I did make a payment offer and it was rejected or if theyll just say I havent paid.

Do the council have anything to do with debt once its passed to these people

Hi Hun, awful feeling, isn't it??? :( A couple of years ago I was going through the same thing. I had over £2000 worth of council tax arrears....then the bailiffs came! I never opened the door but they left a card. The very next day I went to the council offices crying my eyes out and they said they couldn't take the debt back as they had warned me many times BUT they could negotiate with the Bailiffs on the ammount I had to pay. At the time, like you, I could only afford about £70 but the lowest I could negotiate them down to was £110. Somehow I scraped by, then after about 6 months I managed to lower the payments because they saw I was willing. Now I only have £225 left to pay! :T
There is light at the end of the tunnel, and send them the £70. Its better than nothing and at least thats £70 off the arrears.
I don't know if that helps but I just wanted you to know you have not been the first, and nor will you be the last to struggle with CT arrears. Good luck xx
