I'm surprised you didn't get good results with Maris Piper, one of the better ones.
Generally old potatoes give better results (I find) and floury potatoes seem to be generally preferred.
Rooster potatoes also make good chips and one I buy only now and again makes excellent chips - they are called Spunta (Italian potato) - a waxy potato and well worth a try.
Good luck.

I like Estima for baking and chips, but then I don't like a 'fluffy' chip, most a soft one. If I can't get Estima, then I'm happy to experiment with any white potato with pink eyes. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Spunta?? I buy from the market, but not always available - normally about 30p per lb.
Rooster, yes in supermarkets.

My friend, who owns a chippy, moans about potatoes this time of the year, the old potatoes are on their last legs and the new ones are not quite here yet. He uses Maris Pipers and can`t say I ever had a bad chip from them, though sometimes they fry darker and don`t stand as good, which is not essential in our house where they dissapear long before they have the chance to 'stand' :rotfl:0
