My husband actually got a letter today from Santander asking if he is in financial difficulty because they can't understand why he would keep paying the minimum £10 payment on a mere £350 debt! They suggested that he contact CCCS! Wow, that's a turnup for the books. Hopefully that means they are willing to help us and co-operate with them when our DMP goes through.
  • I think thats quite  for them to presume that!!! TBH, cheeky barstewards

Well I suppose it's elementary if you look at the figures (but still a bit cheeky). Trouble is we have been thinking of trying to get rid of that one and just do the DMP on the 3 big ones!
  • Might be an idea then....if you can.

i am in the process of setting up my DMP, fWIW i have always managed to service my debts, have never missed a payment etc etc, However i woke up the other day and thought sod this i am going to work for god knows how many hrs a week to pay interest and ending up even further in debt. Its been interesting getting my statements together over the last couple of days the online ones give you your minimum payment for next month, and despite paying the amount required, each card has estimated another couple of quid on the minimum payment next month another couple of quid you don't notice, till it pushes you to the point that you can't pay ,i'm forever worrying that i'll have enough in the bank to get me to the end of the month, and using the CC to buy things, and for what to keep a credit rating that is slowly going down anyway because of the amount of debt i have (last checked at 556) yes the thought of having nothing to fall back on is scaring the !!!! out of me, and the thought of not being able to pick up the phone and get instant credit is also scary, but i actually feel liberated, i have lived my whole adult life on credit, buying now and paying later, but never actually paying it off, its time to get a grip and admit that i'm crap with money, i'm crap at saying no to myself, so if the only option is to take the option for credit away then in the long run thats better, from now on if i can't afford i don't have, a big culture shock, but simples really

Great description of a real lightbulb moment. Well done for dealing with this Lizzy :T

There is probably some trigger for this, X months of minimum payments and they send out a letter. We certainly had a few before we started our DMP but I don't remember any of them mentioning CCCS. Am not financially involved with Santander and haven't heard many good things about them but it seems like this is one. :)

I can't really tell you about the downside to a DMP because we only have good things to say about ours. Though we are probably different to a lot of people because we never want credit again and being in a DMP will trash your credit rating, there seems to be no way around that. :o

Why don't you come and join us on the DMP & Mutual Support Thread. A read of some of the stories there will give you insight into DMP experiences good and bad and there is always advice and support available. That forum certainly kept me sane in the early days :T

Will certainly take a look. Thank you. I have taken the first step and applied for a new bank account. We have been accepted (and offered a £250 o/d!) probably because our dmp isn't in place yet, but now we can start transferring wages etc. Next week I'm going to have a rummage through our junk and see if I can sell anything.
