5 year olds bedtime quandary

My DS has just turned 5 and has always had lights out by 7pm. I have noticed the last week he hasn't been going to sleep until gone 8.30 but staying in bed.
We have to get up at 6.30 so he never lays in , he wouldn't even if he could!
Should I see this as a sign he needs a slightly later bedtime or stick to what we currently do?
What time do other similar aged children go to bed ?
Oh extra to add he has blackout curtains and blackout blind
Thanks!

7pm seems very early for a 5-year-old. We're sitting down for dinner around then.0

Is he complaining about the bed time? If he is quite happy lying in bed chilling out I would leave it longer than a week before changing his time.
Mine go to bed at 8pm and lights off by 8.30pm, but they don't get up until 7.30am so it's much of a muchness.0 -
7pm seems a very normal bedtime for a 5 year old to me. I'd say if he is staying in his bed until he falls asleep then carry on and enjoy the peace lol0

7pm is fine as a bed time for a 5 year old. I guess he needs a bit of winding down time, I know I take an age to get off to sleep, and this time of year doesn't help. My two have black out blinds and curtains but it's still much lighter than it is in winter time.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

Sounds normal to me -Mine was always in bed and asleep by that time at five. I've never understood the concept of less than 12 hours sleep at that age-Mine always slept through and if the routine was broken were grumpy the next day.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Our 5 year old twin boys go at 6:45/7pm on week nights, as we need to be up at 6:45am, and a little later on a Friday and Saturday but they are more than ready to go to bed:)
Our boys never lie in either:( good job my husband is up early, so I get the lie in every weekend/holiday:):)

My daughter is 5 and goes up to bed at 7.30pm for stories for 10mins and then she goes to sleep straight away mostof the time but sometimes she can be still awake at 8.15pm but I keep to this routine - she usually is awake at 7am.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

I've just moved my 8 year olds bed time from 7pm to 7.30pm - she really needs her sleep!
7pm is perfect for a 5 year old, they need their sleep at that age. My mums friend is a teacher and she says you can spot the kids that don't get enough sleep a mile off.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
