  • It's flipping freezing here and the annexe heating doesn't want to work properly. On closer inspection, this appears to be because the pressure in the system has dropped to 0.2bar  I've switched it off and am trying to find the heating engineer's number - the problem is that he doesn't advertise, so he's not listed anywhere. If Mr Minx hasn't got it stored in his phone then I'll have to go over the field and ask our neighbours for it.

Happy thing though, my Textbroker articles all got rated 4 stars and I only had one correction out of all five articles (I hyphenated tell-tale, they'd have preferred telltale). So once I've finished packing today's orders (and tracked down the heating engineer!), I can get back to it.

Well done with Textbroker. Isthat similar to AQA??

This is deffo not the season to have horses, lol. While I miss many facets of having them, lugging water containers about and poo picking in the snow aren't amongst them!

I'd love to go on a really interesting, cultural type hol, but I think we've got a few years of beaches and play parks to do first!

Thanks :) I was going to say no, but I suppose it is in a way, in that it's research and writing for money! Textbroker puts writers and people wanting website content written in touch with each other, basically. The orders are classified into areas, e.g. business, finance, technology, sport, fashion etc. etc., the client provides a brief outline of what they want the article to be about and the word length and if you fancy writing it, you take it out of the pile. Clients choose the quality of writer they want by asking for a certain star level, but the higher the request is, the more they'll have to pay for it. Conversely, if I pick an article out of the queue that's been tagged for a 2* writer, I only get paid the 2* price despite being classified 4*.

    Clear as mud?? :rotfl:

I did manage to get the heating engineer's number, left a message on his phone yesterday and his wife has just called back to say he's in the village tomorrow and will pop in. I've actually managed to fix it myself :D:D so I told her it wasn't urgent now and to only come by if he's got time, but I will arrange for him to service it when he's free, as it hasn't been done for four and a half years

That's interesting...how much does it pay? Is it worth it?

Well done on the. 4 *.

We are apparently getting hit with snow again. City is at a standstill. Wish me luck trying to get a taxi home from the station then....:-(

The most I've earned from an article so far is about €7,50, but I understand that if you can get upgraded to 5* it's about €20 for 500 words. It's not going to make you a millionairess, put it that way :D There's a good thread on the Up Your Income board: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4066087

Only 5 orders to go today :( and no available articles on Textbroker :(

Might look into that (if my brain ever recovers from stopping work & having kids....

Orders will pick up, think everyone's just a bit post Christmassy. I've been selling a few bits of tack and prices are v low.

    Chin up. :-)

  • I hope you're right Catshark - only 8 orders today and now Royal Mail says it's 'considering' fuel surcharging for business accounts, which means my postage costs are going to go up again. The reason I've put 'considering' in quotes is that they've already re-programmed the business account software to have a 'Surcharges' column, so the chances of them changing their minds on this one are pretty remote...!

On the plus side I've been able to write three articles for Textbroker clients today and assuming they're all accepted I've got €22 ready to pay out. NatWest charges £1 for incoming Euro payments if they're under £100 (or currency equivalent) and £7 if they're over £100, so I either need to cash out every £100 or so or wait until I've got at least £700. Think it'll be the former :D

It's been an expensive day :( I had to go to Wick to collect an order from the tack shop, so it was £53.50 on a new fly sheet and bulk order of molasses-free training treats for Merlin, £3.98 on dog training treats, £12.50 in Tesco (we had some money off coupons which were due to expire, so it was the strangest basket of goods ever as I managed to use them all!) and £55 of diesel (141.9p at Tesco as opposed to 147.9p at the petrol station in Thurso). Ouch.
  • Hello Friday! Scores on the doors ahoy...

    (last week/this week/ + or - amount)
    Business
    Overdraft: -£-2840.39 / -£2940.77 -£100.38

    Business total: -£-2840.39 / -£2940.77 -£100.38

    Personal
    Overdraft: -£2409.37 / -£2673.67 -£264.30
    Egg card: -£3190.00 / -£3190.00 no change
    Barclaycard: -£2800.00 / -£2800.00 no change

    Personal total: -£8399.37 / -£8663.67 -£264.30

    Grand total: -£11,239.76 / -£11,604.44 -£364.68

And so we're back in the red this week :( Not surprising since it's the last few days of January and at least I'm not back over £12k - that'll happen next week! But I've cheered myself up by getting last year's work diary out (I put these figures on the empty page for Sunday each week) and looking at the same week; the total was -£21,744.36 so I've come a fair way in a year.

I'm still about £1600 short of all the money I need by 6th February though :( £606.54 of it is a supplier payment and can go on The Card if it has to and I should be able to take £1000 between now and then, so it's not a dire situation, but it leaves me playing catch-up in February. I think I'm going to have to start diversifying a bit and making some pocket money priced jewellery to take round the local table top sales when they start up again in March.
