I am not sure why immigrants get the jobs and indigenous people don’t . I’m not that far from Aldershot and there has been a big influx of Nepalese and many of them are now working for large companies in the are and I don’t think they are being exploited.

IMO some of the reasons immigrants get work are
    • that they are highly flexible and will work in jobs that have little stability because they have nothing to lose
    • they are willing to work for minimal wages, possibly on a casual basis, again because they have little to loose and it may seem high relatively
    • they are flexible and can be mobile on work location without the ties of family
    • they are often willing to live in very basic accommodation and may not have family along

There does seem to be a few doing that but they are driving the buses, delivering groceries etc. I'm not sure why or if they get the jobs in preference to the locals We are in the south east and things are easier than in some other places mind you not as easy as some people would have you believe.

Do they not receive a pension as well?

    b) benefiting from a ludicrous, irresponsible, socialist welfare regime which encourages the workshy not to work.

Take it you haven't been to a job centre recently.

Sure there are, because immigrants have filled the jobs that many of our unemployed should be doing .

So immigration does contribute to unemployment?

Or is it a case of not having a five year old TV in perfect working order replaced by an HD Ready one, courtesy of the taxpayer ?

    Does that actually happen?

    How does that work?

ok so you agree those things affect everyone. why were they given as an example of taxes specific to working people? benefit cuts are specific to claimants. what tax increases have occurred that apply specifically to employed people only?
why do you want me to set out in detail policies just because i point out the flaws in targeting those at the bottom?

They weren't, you asked for examples of tax rises so I gave you some, but working people (or people who have money because they have worked in the past) will bear the brunt of those tax rises. But tax rises which apply to employed people only actually happened in the last government to fund the rapidly increasingly public spending bill - increases in NI, abolishing the 10% rate, not increasing tax allowances in line with inflation, removing the dividend tax credit for pension schemes - all of these have been loaded onto working people.

Now we're in a right mess we nee to realise that you cannot go on increasing public spending faster than inflation, when growth is zero.

Your viewpoint is just "not fair, someone else must pay, keep increasing benefits". I expect I might feel the same if I was in receipt of benefits, but the reality is that the only viable way to bring the deficit under control is to increase taxes AND cut public spending including benefits.

If we don't take action everyone will lose because eventually the value of our currency will fall off a cliff and the benefits you receive won't buy as much imported stuff anymore.

You obviously didn't see the item on the One Show a few month ago.

There is no way that the Lib Dems would be supporting government policy on this if it involved only hurting the genuinely vulnerable. Though they are left, they are (mostly) not loony left like Labour, and they realise that making work an optional extra such that the state will make sure that those who choose not to do it are no worse off than those who do, is a recipe for disaster.

All the excuses and claptrap that we have seen from the bleeding hearts on this thread is the usual leftie propaganda, which will cut no ice with anyone who knows which end is up.
No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
