Any Ideas

I have a default on my Experian & Noddle file from Argos. The default date is 01/09/2010 and is for £1,141 and has been satisfied

I wrote to Home Retail Card Services Ltd regarding the default, asking as a gesture of goodwill would they remove. They wrote back with this

Dear xxxxx

Acc Num xxxx

Home Retails Group Services

I am writing in reference to your letter dated xx.xx.12 which has been passed for my attention.

After further investigation, our records show the Default Notice was sent on the 4th August 2010 requesting £128.67, as this was not paid within the timescale a default was registered.

It then goes on that they wernt at fault and it will remain for 6 years.

My question relates to the amount and the date. I now have paperwork from them that differs to what they have registered on my account. Can I do anything with this, as both the date and the amount are different.

Thanks

Sam

  • Did you at any point default on the payments? What was the timescale for the August payment they are claiming defaulted, ie was it paid on time?

To be honest I don't, doubt the default! I had only asked as gesture of goodwill! It's more the fact they have written to me to tell me they won't remove it, but with different amount and date to that they have registered to the agencies

It may just have been updated on the first of the next month after the default notice was sent (if that makes sense). You could raise a query with Experian saying that Argos have confirmed the default was sent on 4th August and ask them to change the date from 1st September.

In terms of the amount - they were probably asking for £128.67 to be paid or they would default for the full amount. As you did not pay, they defaulted it - that probably explains the slight difference in date too, as they would have waited for you to pay before registering the default formally.

A default notice is your last opportunity to clear the debt, so this probably was sent on 4th August. Then you didn't pay in time to clear it so the official default was put on your file on teh 1st Sept.

The £128 was the amount required to prevent default for the time being, not the full balance. It's just what would have kept you safe for another month.
