does anyone have experience of barclays taking money from a joint account when on a DMP? We have writen to them requesting my name to be removed from my wifes account but they haven't done it yet, i cant start my DMP until this is done incase they take the wifes wages, any advice please, should i just get the DMP started and hope they dont take anything from the account or wait ?

Is this account in credit? if so, it may be safer to close it and open two new ones.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Yes the account is in credit but my wife is not aware that I am starting a DMP, I wanted to get it up and running first so I could explain to her exactly how it works but if her wages are taken then I would be in trouble[STRIKE]outstanding debts £39,000[/STRIKE] £0:j0

I think you will find that the bank need her permission to take your name off the account, even if it was safe to stay there.
You need to tell her.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
It's standard practice for both account holders to have to agree for a name to be removed so think you'll need to tell your wife (sorry).
Best to change accounts anyway IMHO - at the start of a DMP you may find some creditors still try to take payments from the account details listed and you don't want that to happen.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

we both signed a letter to barclays to have my name removed, she thought it was for an old account we no longer use, bit of a white lie but neads must, I will be telling her as soon as everything is in place but not sure why barclays have not replied to our letter. This was done before they get suspicious of anything[STRIKE]outstanding debts £39,000[/STRIKE] £0:j0

none of the debts are associated with this account they are all with my own account, but because this one is joint I worry that barclays may take money from it although it is not my money[STRIKE]outstanding debts £39,000[/STRIKE] £0:j0

If it's a joint account, they will consider it to be your money and may set off against it. Try and get it sorted ASAP.
I know it's none of my business but please tell your wife. When I read these "my partner doesn't know" threads, it just makes me think how I would feel in those circumstances. My OH and I are rocks to each other and this is so much easier to do together.
Good luck

Hi
You may be in a difficult situation here as your joint account will be seen as part of the DMP (albeit in credit), so although it is not your money, in Barclays eyes it is. Any money going into that account will be seen as fair game for Barclays so I would be surprised if they took your name off it. I had a similar situation with Santander and they refused point blank to take either name off the account.
Our joint account went into the DMP (all my responsibility) my wife swapped her account to Barclays and has had no trouble - credit ratings trashed due to me unfortunately.
The second Barclays get a whiff your going on a DMP they will take the joint account money to clear any balance in your own account.
I realise your not yet in a DMP but Barclays could, at any point, use set off as the other poster has said.
Tell her, its only fair. The consequences if you don't will be much much worse. (I know, i've been there)

I was in a similar situation and I didn't want to tell my husband, I though he would go loco, but was really supportive, to be fair nothing he could say could have made me feel any worse anyway, as I had just found out my Dad has cancer:(
Our joint account is overdrawn at £1400 it has been like this for ages and it really awkward to sort out. But my OH has been great and has transferred all his accounts and DDs. :T
He says it is not a great position to be in but at least we are dealing with it and there is an end in sight even though it is a long way off at the moment.
The debts are mine, he has always been good with money and saves up for things.
