Santander

Options
Hello

I have a car loan with Santander and I'm very frustrated to find that I get charged £30 for every change no matter how small.
I just wanted to post to warn people not to fall into the trap I find myself in so that they can choose to go elsewhere hopefully and save themselves some money, as that's what it's all about in the end.

I got a letter stating that my registration number had changed as I took my private reg off the car and put on retention. The charge was £30 and they said we hope you appreciate our costs for this and that I did not need to do anything as they were informed by DVLA.

The other £30 was for my bank account changing (same bank) different account number.

I will never use Santander or any of their products or banking again, I find their costs/charges and the reasons for them completely unacceptable.

Rant over and thank you for reading, hope this helps some of you out there.

    They're Spanish, they're skint...give them a break.

Were the charges detailed in your original loan agreement / terms & conditions?

If they were then obviously you knew that you would be charged them.

In the unlikely event they were not detailed on any of the information you received when you took out the agreement then you might consider writing a letter to complain.

I think people will find almost all lenders of secured loan finance would make a charge for administering a change of vehicle registration, and I've certainly seen at least one bank that charges almost double what you have found santander charged you.

They might be Spanish but they're certainly not skint! A very prudent bank. Oh and Spain now only contribute around 10% to the group turnover.

    Get your facts right!

These charges are common in the industry these days; it helps them keep their headline rates down on comparison sites etc.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
