Which is cheaper - Morrisons or Asda??

Hi Guys

I am looking for ways to reduce my food shopping bill even more than I have done. I have done the downshift challenge (acutally found the value stuff a lot better than the branded!) and buying cheaper cuts of meat (latest discovery pork cheeks!). But I am still spending around £60-£80/week for two adults and two cats. Would love to be able to get it down to around £50/£60 per week.

We don't have any Lidls or Aldis near us - only Morrisons, Waitrose, Sainsburys and an Asda (which has just opened). We generally shop at Morrisons but I have been wondering whether Asdas might be cheaper.

What does everyone thing?

Also if anyone has any tips/advice for reducing my food bill that would be fab!!!

xx :j

Agreed. By far, easiest way to reduce your spend.

Geting rid of the cats probably isn't an option and doesn't really answer the OP's question!

Personally i think Asda is cheaper although I don't tend to shop there much as am lucky enough to have an Aldi and Lidl close by.

Wonder what BBQ cat tastes like :)

Best way to get people to comment on your spending is to put down a typical shopping week ( with sizes and prices )

I think Asda is the cheapest of the 'big four' but by going there you compromise on quality. Sainsbury's also do brand match so you can recoup the money that you would have saved in all the other supermarkets on branded goods.

I find asda cheaper but tend to go to tesco, just because it's round the corner, usually only use M for their offers.

You can order online with Asda, so I would dig out an old Morrisons receipt, and go through the motions of ordering the same through the Asda website. That way you can get a realistic idea of which is cheaper based on what you actually buy!

it depends what you buy, i find Morrisons cheaper for cook from scratch food as they often have offers on this. Asda will be cheaper if you tend to eat ready meals, or frozen burgers etc as they have these on offer.

I personally find Morrisons cheaper but others say it is more expensive. I always just buy fruit, veg and meat that is on offer so can save that way at Morrisons
