Make a start cutting back on things, maybe do an SOA and post it on the DFW board. Getting a loan is just papering over the cracks and not actually dealing with the issue which is spending.
  • Once I get home tonight i'll be making a start on that DCFC79,thanks.

Make sure your fiancee feels as strongly as you about getting down to sorting out the finances, otherwise you may face difficulties.

What's the money been spent on?

Have a think about it and turn out the house. Think about what you could sell to clear some of the debt. If you could pay off one credit card that would be one less monthly payment.

Also could she work more? Maybe home tutoring or holiday scheme/summer camp etc.

It will take work but I'm sure if you are both determined you will get there.

Find out the exact APRs for all the debts - so you know which one to focus on tackling first.

Have a look at snowballing to work out an order to repay the debts, and how long it will take you both at the current repayment rate (there are 2 recommended snowball calculators at whatsthecost.com or on the same site as the statement of affairs calculator on the link given earlier by clapton). Combine this with identifing some cutbacks so you can pay more to the debts and you will start to move forward.

A consolidation loan doesn't look like its going to be an option on the info posted - but its still worth trying to minimimse the interest you pay. You could consider applying for a 0% balance transfer card - either for your own card debt, or for your OHs (if you felt comfortable legally taking on her debt).
