Can someone tell me as 2 different brokers are giving very different advice.
Can the right to buy scheme be used for private tenants? If so what is the benefit of this scheme compared to just outright mortgage?

You might want to specify where you live first, it may make things easier.0

OOps sorry didn't think that mattered thought it was a UK wide thing -- I am in Scotland0

The rules/discounts are very different in England, Wales and Scotland.
Generall the RTB discounts (as referred to in legislation) are strictly council owned (or originaly council owned properties).
I do seem to have somewhere in the back of my mind that long term private tenants (certainly not on renewed AST agreements) can have acquisition rights - and I think this might be along the 'right to acquire' lines rather than 'right to buy' structure.
If such rights do exist, they are certainly very unusual (and it will all be down to the basis of the tenancy agreement) and the discoun ts are certainly nowhere near the £75,000 cap that now applies in the UK.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
