I've melted clothes to my iron...

I'm about to make my bridesmaids outfits, but I'm not sure which interfacing to use. I want to use a lightweight fusible on acetate satin. The Vilene ones I've seen are for cotton and cotton blends (304) or stretch fabrics (319). Any idea what number I need?

I'm not sure that I'd use a fusible on acetate satin, you need quite a hot iron to get a bond, not sure that the satin would be up to it. I'd go for a light weight non-iron one. I also find that iron-on is more likely to make the fabric wrinkle.0

I've not used sew-in before, any tips? And the garments' not lined.0

Are you not working to a pattern? The pattern should tell you what weight you need and I'm amazed it's not lined.
Go for lightweight interfacing and ask for advice in shop if you are not using a pattern0 -
Yes, I've got a pattern. It says lightweight fusible or non-fusible. The view I'm doing isn't lined, only the boned version is. I would prefer to line it, but not sure how to, without instructions.
My problem isn't the pattern, it's finding a suitable interfacing in the shops! I'll give your suggestion a go, hardpressed.0 -
Liz if you have to use interfacing, use it only on the facings and not on the main body of fabric otherwise you have a danger of show-through. I don't use Vilene myself, it's not flexible enough for fine soft fabrics like satin.
If you don't mind buying over the Net (or they would take phone orders) I would try https://www.englishcouture.co.uk - either their Silky Touch Couture interfacing (find it under Bridal) or Fine Sheer Fusible (under Dressmaking) would probably be the best option. They are helpful on the phone so if you're not sure you can ring them for advice.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

You can line it by making an identical garment in lining fabric then put the lining and the dress together matching the seams, then sew the facing throught both thicknesses of fabric, turn the facing through and catch on the seams. Or you can cut lining to match each piece tack them together and use as one piece of fabric. The second way is best if the fabric is sheer and the seams would show through.0

Thanks for that link Frugal, I did think vilene might not be ideal. I'll give your link a go.
Hardpressed, I kind of thought that was the way to do it, wasn't sure about how to actually assemble it , though! Will have to work on my handstitching!
