Completely confused and just taking the leap!

Sorry, I am so new to all this. JUST recently in touch with CCCS through credit card company reccomendation as starting to really not cope with debts.
I am just going along with their advice, is this really stupid? I have been reading up tonight on the never ending array of different debt management companies and ways of dealing with it.
CCCS seemed really helpful......
Any thoughts?

We are on a Debt management plan with CCCS as they've been great with us.
There are other charity (free) places that you can go for help, but please don;t go with a fee paying company.

What are CCCS suggesting to you?

    Hi pippaviron :hello:

Yes there are a lot of debt management companies but there are basically 2 sorts:

Those you pay for the service << keep well away
    and
Those you don't << the ones you want

Avoid the fee paying ones and go for one of the "freebies" like CCCS or Payplan.

    Good luck :)

Oh I know exactly where you are coming from, I approached PayPlan today & they will be calling me back on Friday with what they can offer me but I am so desperate that I think I will agree to anything so long as it takes the heat off me for the moment - I too am afraid that I make the wrong decision.

Think this is probably classic behaviour when faced with this type of debt problem.

    Hi Pippa and Duckie,

Please don't be tempted by any company that charges fees. They will promise you the earth but there is a very high chance they will end up shafting you (to put it bluntly). This board is full of horror stories about them.

Payplan and CCCS both offer DMPs for free. CCCS is a charity and I have found them absolutely great. I would say take the advice of either of these companies, you could also ring the National Debtline for impartial advice.

I did a blog about my experiences of going on a dmp, follow the info in my signature if you'd like to read it.

In the meantime, find the DMP Mutual Support Thread for lots of advice and answers :-)
