I've worn smart black or grey trousers and a nice top for the interviews for the last two jobs i've got. I'm too short from shouldar to waist to wear a suit.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

yeah good luck! could always buy a suit and take it back. unethical but the big old retail world can absorb one return i'm sure ;)
  • Best of luck OP & I know exactly how you feel as I had my 1st interview for years last week. Personally, I'd always say wear a suit to an interview if you can.

I do have a lot of suits from days when I worked in the city (and pre LMB when I spent a fortune on clothes and just stuck them on an ever increasing cc debt:o) but unfortunately I was a lot thinner then!

I don't mind forking out for smart trousers as I do have to wear them everyday in my current job ... but the suit jackets are never needed where I work now.

I eventually found a suit at Deben*hams - the trousers were fine at £18 but, as usual, it was the jacket that made the cost go up a lot at £38 - so total of £56. However, for a suit, I guess that's not too bad and it certainly doesn't look cheap like some errr cheap ones can.

Do you have any charity shops near you that you could have a hunt in - you can sometimes find one that's in good condition.

    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Wear a suit. It shows you are pulling out all the stops to impress.

A matching skirt ALWAYS looks best with a lady's suit.

I have an Interview on 4th July and need to wear smart clothes but I cannot afford prices I've seen for a Suit. Would a pair of black trousers and just a blouse or nice top be ok? I also have a driving assessment so I don't really want to wear a skirt because I also have to wear driving shoes which is another cost that I could do without. This is my first ever formal interview i've done for almost 20 years so I don't really know what to wear :o
