Between exchange and completion - just found out no keys for window locks

Options
Do I have to just suck this up and pay for new locks?

Sounds daft, but I presumed the vendor would have the keys to the window locks, now he's saying the previous tennant left them at the flat that's vacant possession, but the EA says there are no keys for the window locks inteh flat.

We exchanged last Fri, we complete this Fri - too late to do anything? There are 7 windows which open, all of them had locks on. How much to replace?

I'm very naive FTB so apologies if the question is stupid. ANother stupid question - how much would it cost to buy and change 7 window locks (and would it be just one key, or seven seperate keys). Or how do I get hold of a replacement set of keys?

Thanks

Not a big deal. When we completed on our property there were no keys for the windows either. All i did was used an online company and forwarded them a picture of the lock and they pointed me to the right set of keys on there website. Overal cost was only a couple of quid :)

If you want the website then pm me :)
  • our local locksmith provided us with a key for our UPVC window lock based on manufacturer and description - it was only £1 or so.

The locks for windows tend to be the lousiest of lousy, so you will probably find them easy enough to open with a screwdriver! But keys - not worth upsetting the sale over ;-)

When I bought this house I had a similar problem- not only did they not give me window keys, but I only had the front and back door key. No garage key for either doors or the key to get to my garden via the alley.
After I kicked up a stink the previous owner "found" the keys, but no window keys. I got around this by asking my neighbour if I could borrow theirs to get some for my house if they fit. I checked them and took them to a key cutter who gave me about 4 for a couple of quid. :)
