i have today recieved an e mail from hm customs and excise. it reads as follows:
Dear Applicant:

You have received a tax refund payment of 732.25GBP
from HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) into your Internet

Please accept the tax refund request. The money will
appear in your Internet Banking Account after 3-6 days.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying
after the deadline.

Please click on sign in to Online Banking to accept
your incoming funds

Best Regards

These fake HMRC emails have been doing the rounds for a number of years.

Tax refunds are always notified to you by post, never by e-mail.

    Scam. Scam. Scam.

Hovering over the 'sign in' bit takes you to a russian website where they'll have a fake portal to take your details and then they'll drain your bank account.

What worries me is, you were only "fairly sure" it was a scam...

If you've received the "payment into your internet account", then logic would suggest that it is there, as opposed to pending some further action.

Of course it isn't and you aren't going to get the payment.

I got one of those mails to, to a business address, so why would HMRC sent the mail there and not to my personal one that I use when I submit returns?

So yes, it is a scam!
