almost statute barred

i think that's what its called anyways :p

i have quiet a few debts that are catching up on me but i live in Scotland and they are almost certainly either already Statute barred or a few months from being it, havent made payments to most for over 5 years

the letters i keep receiving keep threatening that they MAY send door step collectors to my door if i keep ignoring the letters, are they just saying this to scare me into phoning them or will door step collectors appear. if they do appear how should i handle them. i really cant afford to start repaying the debt im still upto my eyeballs in debt that i am paying just now

It wont stop the letters !
All you will have is a defence against court action.
They can ask you to pay until the cows come home.

You're aware that it is 5 years in Scotland? Not 6.

Factsheet | Liability for debts & the Prescription & Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973

If you've already had 5 years since the last acknowledgement and there's no ccj (decree) on them, just send the letter at the end of the factsheet.

Or the relevant one from this thread

Statute barred debts and the Limitation Acts

Under Scottish law, you can argue that the debt is ‘extinguished’, This means that it no longer exists and there is no debt for the creditor to pursue.

If they did send someone and you got caught out and opened the door just tell them to go away, whatever happens don't mention statute barred just in case the one they are calling about is not yet and they tell the creditor and warn them that they need to act fast.
