Advice PLEASE!!! Internet Explorer Probs

Hello & Goodmorning
I am at my wits end with my computer  I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. I posted a thread a while ago & everything that you good people suggested I couldn't do! - not just because I am rubbish, but because I am unable to download anything!
Tiscali have done speed & broadband Modem check but
a. we still cannot download
b. connection speed checks show we are ok with the line speed, but it is still very slow when trying to do anything. Its almost like something is not working well with another program?
I get an error message Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found - whenever I try to download I can't even get clip art!
Thankyou for reading my rant any advice would be greatly appreciated

    have you tried firefox ??

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

    does everything IE does

get someone to download it for you , or look on the disks on the pc mags

without the ability to download you do not have a hope of fixing this

This might sound a tad dumb, but here goes - this only seems to have happened since I downloaded xp service pack 2. Do you know if that could have affected anything? Also can Internet Explorer be disabled?:o

you can remove SP2 from add/remove programs

you need to check the box at the top that says "show updates"

    http://support.microsoft.com/KB/875350

then see if everything works before trying the update again

it's dangerous to run XP without SP2 !!!

you can make firefox the default browser but not disable internet explorer

    1. How did you update to SP2 - from a CD?

    2. What's the exact message when you click on 'download'?

    3. You can get to this site obviously, so when are these 'Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found' errors happenning?

This from MS - worth a shot?...

    1. Click Start, click Run, type control international, and then click OK.
    2. Click the Languages tab, and then click Details.
    3. Click the Advanced tab, click to select the Turn off advanced text services check box, and then click OK two times.

Thanks to advice last week from Browntoa -and others- I have Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera all installed on my computer -you can set one to be the default and use the others as and when you choose. I think I am leaning towards Firefox but I still use IE as well.

I was surprised how quick and easy it was to download Firefox and Opera - and both are free.
