wHAT WOULD i NEED FOR A CHRISTENING AND HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST?

Hello

I would love to have my baby christened. What would I need to include in the costings? I know I'll need a room, cake, outfit, food for guests etc.

How many people do you invite generally? What are average costs per head for a buffet (wouldn't be able to do it myself really).

Do people always get babies christened when they are very young? I would like my LO christened for purely religious reasons so I would really like quite a small do but we have a big extened family. I don't think we could afford for everyone to come in the near future but possibly could if we wait. (does that make sense???)

I have very little clue about this really (as you might well tell).

Any ideas would be good.

    Depends what sort of church for costings? I went to a catholic one at the weekend that was part of the mass. Little girl was 4 though, so dont think it's just for babies.

    They had;
    dress, venue for after and food. That's about it. Oh and cake. Had about 40 people?

    Think it depends on the church, if you're having a Christening solely or tagging onto a service IYKWIM?

    It may also depend if you want your child to go to a church school - some in city areas are so oversubscribed that your child needs to have been baptised before 6 months old, so it might be as well to check.
    Both our children have been christened and the church just ask for a donation - I think we gave £20. We just had close family back to the house, maybe 25 people. It can be as big or small as you want it, really.

    Why don't you just get your baby Christened with immediate family? and have a small buffet at your house? If its purely for religious reasons, there's no need to spend a small fortune on all the unneccessary 'trappings'.

    I wasn't christened till I was 4. The main thing you must think abvout is the Godparents for your baby. I refused to pick family and had friends that I trusted and I knew would be good ones to my children. Two of them were their Guardians too if anything happened to me or ex (nothing did, thank goodness)
    Apart from that, just a cake ,outfit, and a buffet. You only need a small do at home.

    Yes this is a discussion at the moment. I have a different view on who the godparents should be as I want someone who will be good to my LO and look after her if need be. I do not want somone because they "should" be the godparent.

    Thanks for the replies.
