barclays overdraft insurance - making a claim

I posted a while ago that I had found out that I had insurance on my overdraft that i didnt know I had. Never used to be one for checking statements :o

Anyway I contacted barclays and said I wanted my money back (£200)

After arguing with them they offered me £60 as a good will gesture as they made a !!!! up. I had a serious car accident a a couple of years ago and was out of work without pay for a while. I phoned barclays for help i just wanted to lower my payments for a couple of months and make up the difference when i returned to work, but the only thing they offered me was to up my loan

I didnt know about this insurance so at the time i would have been able to make a claim, but barclays didnt tell me that i had this and that i could claim until its come to light now.

I had a rant at them about it, told them to bring up all the call recordings from August 2005 when i had my accident etc.

They got back to me and said they would refund six months of payments and informed me that i could still claim.

I dont understand what the claim is though :o I understand insurance on a loan, credit cars etc, but not on an overdraft?!

I thought it would be worth claiming anyway as i am entitled to it, but wondered if anyone knows how protection works on an overdraft ???

Also i cancelled it as soon i found out i had it!!!

  • You can claim that they missold you a loan despite you having the relevant insurance in thefirst place. this would be a small claim. word it as a short story and then explain to the judge exactly what happened once you are at a hearing if you get to one. Barclays should pull their little finger out and sort this out befora aq stage. Trust me on this one.

The problem is that they owe me £200 in what payments i have made. They have offered me £60 plus said i can make the claim i could have made 18 months ago.

The most important think for me is what will give me the most money. Claiming and taking the £60 or persuing for my money back?

    Sammiboo,

Why not go to the barclays website and see if there is a bried description of it there. Should say what it covers. (not that I have looked and barclays put it on my account - they are currently investigating my complaint)

  • You could claim and discover that certain conditions tie you down to a certain time period after which you cannot claim. !!!

I have a named complaint manager who assures me that I can claim - it should all be recorded too. So i am currently looking at making the claim.

nah - its going towards paying debt off :o well most of it anyway :p

We have sold this house and have been accepted for the house at llanymynech. Idea is with the equity in this house i am using 5k towards paying off my 6k loan so i can pay the mortgage repayments. The shortfall, this will cover it. Boring i know :o
