Options
Hi, we are pensioners who have family in Australia. We don't want to travel without insurance but are also aware of the reciprocal health agreement when in Oz.
We ave been befor and the insurance alone is around £1000 for us!!
If anyone knows a way you can just get insurance for the flight, to cover for any unexpected health issues or cancellations etc PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.:j:beer:

What is the reciprical health agreement within OZ?

Does that mean any Uk citizen can travel within OZ with no insurance and be covered for any eventuality?

They were clearly talking about their medical needs, but even then I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss insurance. Australians don't get free medical treatment - so the recipricol agreement doesn't therefore mean everything is free. For 5 minutes spent with a GP for example, I had to pay $60 and got $35 of it back from the government "Medicare" scheme when I registered with them, but that takes quite a while. Even things like Ambulances are charged for.

Medical evacuation obviously wouldn't be covered either. If you become too ill to fly back on a commercial flight, you'll be stuck in Oz (which happens all the time around the world - these flights cost tens/hundreds of thousands of pounds).

Thanks for the reply I did suspect it may be the case that everything isnt free.

From your reply I would suggest the OP needs regular insurance not just flight insurance

PS everyone else got thanked, I asked the OP a question and didnt even get a reply, hey ho
