I was afraid that this was going to be more of the same that the BBC has dished up in the past but the contrast of upper, middle and working class is really interesting and different. Will make this a firm weekly date for the next few weeks."A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."

I loved the programme. My mum was bought up in the type of family that had a business and also maids and now I know why she could not show affection. I wish I had known a lifetime ago. It must have been so hard for her after she married for love and had seven children and hardly any money
Dhs gran took in washing like that after her husband died and she had 3 children to bring up. That is what has made many of my generation so os and able to cope with what life has thrown at us. We had to get on or go under
I am going to find it very interesting to see how on earth that poorest family got the aspiration to actually pull themselves up to do what they do today ie the polo yard. Maybe it was because they were at rock bottom in edwardian days, not so long ago 1910 ish.0 -
I really enjoyed the programme, despite having some initial doubts but it has done one thing for me that I find surprising, I am actually aware of feeling very lucky to live in 2012, despite all the worrying stuff that is happening in the world. It made me realise how much I value my equality and the loving relationship I have with the girls, I think the reality of history is probably a far cry from the romantic images lots of us have. Cheers Lyn.0
