in Cutting tax
Hi
I am cabin crew based at heathrow but commute from Glasgow. Is there any way I can reduce the cost of getting to work? The air tax on my ticket is a lot more than the fare itself. Can I claim a tax refund on any of it as I am travelling to get to work?

Travel to get to work isn't claimable - only travel whilst in the course of your work or business. I think Gordo would go bust if commuting exes were tax deductible when you consider the million's of miles people drive or travel by train every week just to get to work.0

Can't you cabin crew on a flight from Scotland, rather than Heathrow?0

Thanks Ian, thats what I thought..altho far as I know train travel isnt taxed...yet! I pay about £144 in tax every month to get to work..thats not the fare, just tax. Even compared to drivers, that seems a bit high. Had hoped some of it might be claimable.
nomoneytoday..would be an ideal solution but my company paying off people in the regions as it is.0 -
You are employed at Heathrow but choose to live in Glasgow (understandably - it's a great city). You choose to fly to work.
Because of that you have to pay!
I choose to live in Wales but work in London. I choose to drive back and fore and therefore pay a lot of fuel duty.

It is, just not seperately. You pay VAT on it (I believe).
And with fuel duty being such a high proportion of the cost per litre, it's expensive to drive too!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A
