While I usually abhor sexism when it comes to jobs, I doubt your OH would have an easy ride as a midwife. Many of my friends were very very uncomfortable by the presence of men during labour, and I know of 1 who completely freaked out when a male midwife was sent to examine her after a pretty scary and traumatic labour.
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

male midwives actually have a fair history

some women prefer male midwives, some don't

    ;-)

OP problem with e-mails is they often go to a central office and are stockpiled, your OH needs to develop some rapport with someone that is influencing the recruitment - which is why i suggested calling up and asking for recruitment manager. It's not easy out of the blue i know, but nothing to lose for jobs in general.

I fully understand 5yr checkable history for security industry though thats a real barrier in the security industry, it's unfair for genuine people that lose out though. Has he considered hospitality route. In restaurants many door staff aren't licenced in same way as other security sectors and 5yr checkable isn't as much of an issue, not the same i know but might be worth considering.
