  • Go to Peacocks or Primark, you can get cheap shirts and trousers there. I got a pair of black smart interview/work trosers for £7.00 and they are really nice.

I agree with primary for men's work trousers. Was there with colleague ages ago who wanted some for her son.

    Thanks guys.

The papers telling me i have the job didn't come today, and i have to sign on early tomorrow (Before post will come)

Should i just tell my adviser that I'm waiting to get the papers, and ask about possible grants for clothing and travel and inform her I'll contact her as soon as i get the papers?

Thanks, that's what i was thinking of.

I should get the papers officially stating i have the job tomorrow (they confirmed i have it but have to do mandatory tests to see if I've been in jail etc) and from that point i can start contacting people, for now i technically don't even have the job or know the start date, although woman asked if i would be ready to work by 2nd of July in interview so i assume then. First thing I'll do is contact the job centre and ask about the vouchers, and then sign off.

I'll not go clothes shopping just yet though, thanks for saving my butt!

Will you be talking to people in this job...we speak English not American in this country.
Its so annoying when someone is talking in American....;)

Some employers will give an advance on wages in this kind of situation. Not the whole wage packet but a proportion of it to tide you over in the first month. Might that be worth exploring too?

With the internet and other social media connecting us all, our cultures seep into one another at an alarming pace, i doubt you'll even be able to tell the diference between an Englishman and an American in a few decades.

With that said, this is a casual forum discussion, i can assure you i won't be addressing my superiors as "dude" :p

Regarding the payment advance, it's a good idea but i will definitely just take a loan before trying this, i think asking for an advance gives off a bad first impression and there is no real downside to taking a very temporary loan, that's if there is even any reason to after i talk to my adviser about possible grants.
