Value Curry Sauce at Morrisons

Options
My local Morrisons has started stocking their own brand value curry sauce, 23p for a 440g jar. It's just like the stuff tesco used to sell.

Sorry if all other branches have been stocking it for years and you all know about it. But I've not heard mention of it in here so thought it might be a new item that will fill a gap left by tesco.

PS. It's stocked at eye level in my store, not on the bottom shelf like it used to be in tesco's.

I found some in Tesco yesterday, first time I've seen it in ages. It's in a jar now, not in a tin and cost 14p! Not tried it yet as I prefer to make my own curries but do like to have some of this on stand by in case of my (about once yearly) curry sauce and chips craving! Apparently it's a new recipe.

You seemed to have missed the huge clue I left, so I'll repeat it, just for you.

Just as there was nothing yellow about the stuff tesco used to sell, there is nothing yellow about this.

I've never tried it, though it looked a bit like the Wagamama Katsu sauce - is it much like that ?

Yeah, it's a bit like that but crossed with old fashioned chip shop curry sauce, if you remember that? Some places used to put sultanas in it!

There is a brand of powdered curry sauce mix called 'Maysan' which is almost identical to the Wagamamma Katsu curry sauce, comes in different strengths too. It comes in a takeaway style plastic box and can be picked up from chinese grocers for about £1.50 or HB & B&M usually sell it too. One box of powder makes about 8 portions.

We like the ASDA smart price one at 17p, it's almost hot (kids will still eat it) and there's some sultanas scattered in it to make it interesting, I buy their bag of cooked chicken breast for £2 to go in it and it easily does 4.

Unfortunately, we don't have a Morrisons, Tescos or Sainsburys within "I don't mind walking there for one item" walking distance here.

That sounds fab! We found one in Waitrose which was pretty good but pricey at £2.50 a time - luckily panko breadcrumbs are cheap to come by so we could get the Waga effect for a fraction of the price anyway :)

I have always been a bit wary of the uber-cheap curry sauces but I think I'll give them a go if they are like chippy curry sauce :j
