Credit File cleanup

Hi, wonder if anyone can advise me please. I was declared bankrupt 7th July, 2009 and discharged 12 months later. I don't have any need for credit, and must admit it had not occured to me to check my credit file until someone asked me about it. Needless to say when I did virtually all my creditors were still listing me as being in default nearly three years after my bankruptcy. I wrote to them all as advised on the sticky and have made some progress - nearly all the accounts are now listed as settled or partially settled 7th July, 2010. The problem is they are still all listing me as being in default to that date. My understanding was the latest date they could show me as being in default was the date of the bankruptcy, and that is what I stated in my letter. Is this correct? If so, what do I do now? Do I have to write to them all again?
The other issue is what do you do about the debts that creditors have sold/taken on after the bankruptcy? I have two creditors listed on my file (TTI and Britannic or Britannia I think) who have obviously taken over some of the debts after 7th July, 2009. These have me listed as in default after my bankruptcy, and have the debt not being satisfied until last year. How do I get these put right? Thanks

Getting the debts marked as satisfied or partially satisfied doesn't remove the default status, so you should still expect to see that.
Plus don't confuse monthly status codes of a "D" or an "8" between your BR date and discharge date for new defaults. They are not. They are just updates of the status.
The most important thing is the actual default date. Usually the file will say "defaulted on xx/yy/20zz" or something similar (or if not, the first D status), and that is the date to focus on. As long as that is on or before your BR date (7th July 2009 for you), then that is the most important thing correct. It is that date that controls what date everything comes off you file 6 years later, so is the most crucial by far.
As long as the initial default date on the TTI/Britanica is correct, then it's not a huge deal if they are marked as satisfied a bit late. Not technically correct, but it won't prevent the defaults dropping off when they should.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for that fermi. Having had another look, I can see that most of the settled accounts are as you state, listing 7th July, 2009 as the default date then continuing to note the default until the account settled/satisfied a year later. Some of my creditors still haven't updated and continue to show me in default - I will need to chase these.
The other accounts I mentioned that were sold on are slightly different. One firm, Tti Spc, has a number of accounts listed, with defaults ranging from the end of July to September 2009, all satisfied by 7th July, 2010. Are these worth chasing up for wrong default date? The other is Britanicca Recoveries, which has default date 27th May, 2011, nearly 2 years after my bankruptcy, with an end date of 3rd August, 2011. How do I get them to put the right dates? Anybody have any views/suggestions? Thanks0

Send the cleanup letter to the ones with the wrong dates.
The August 2011 one definitely needs doing.
The others will delay your credit file becoming clear by a couple of months at most, so debatable whether they are worth the effort.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
