The OP is being expected to run cabling, presumably to a professional standard, but they thought it relevant to mention that they had to be briefly shown how to use a drill and a ladder?
The safe use of ladders comes under the Working at Height Regulations, which I imagine is why they covered that off. But I still don't see why that's a bit worrying.0 -

I wouldn’t be doing it. Who takes responsibility for the fire retardant integrity of the walls one you burst into them with a drilling machine?
Is there a possibility of future IP integrity being compromised within trunking etc?

I would assume that the worrying bit is that the OP is an adult but doesn't know how to use a ladder.
Actually, if a company expects you to perform any duties at height - they have specific duties under the law to ensure that the person is trained...
Every employer shall ensure that no person engages in any activity, including organisation, planning and supervision, in relation to work at height or work equipment for use in such work unless he is competent to do so or, if being trained, is being supervised by a competent person.
Bearing in mind a significant percentage of injuries arise from falls; being an adult does not automatically qualify you to be competent in working at height - any height.
As mentioned earlier, if the employer expected working at heights to be part of the job role, then under the regs below, they should ensure that the employee is trained and competent.

I don't think anyone said the OP doesn't know how to use a ladder.
I know how to adjust the height of my chair and ensure my desk is arranged in a way that minimises risk to me. That doesn't relieve my employer from their responsibility to carry out a DSE inspection.
People who are employed as drivers know how to drive. But that doesn't relieve the employer of their responsibililty to carry out periodic licence checks.
