Hire Purchase?

Please help me lovely forumites!

I work full time and have debt from yester years of poor income & bad behaviour on a credit card for £3000 (already reduced from £4500).

My credit was good until i took on an arrangement to repay an extortionate bill i got from orange whilst on holiday around this time last year. I was promised it wouldnt affect my credit rating and it took it down by 100 points in one fell swoop, pushing me back into the 'poor' section of the 'rating' after plenty of hard work over some time. Anyhow, ive been very good and the figure is slowly re-couping (On this matter, i really recommend checkmyfile.com and NOT experian or the other guys)

Anyway, I digress. I am a photographer 9-5 and am unable to use my works equipment outside of this time. My camera (old & defunct) gave up the ghost recently. My confidence has grown with my 5-9 photography and weddings/portraits other works could be there if i wanted it.

I have been thinking if I got a new camera body between around £300-£500 (I know the models etc which would suffice & be compatible with previous lenses etc) I could generate more income and get rid of these debts etc at a better pace (priority no.1 right now) However I obviously cant put hands on that amount all at once..

Which leads me to put it to you guys about the best method of getting this camera. My other half has said avoid credit cards/store cards at all cost and I agree but he thinks hire purchase etc could be an option in a smaller retailer for a fair rate. I thought this was now obsolete but apparently not? Does anyone have experience of this? Advice? What do you knowledgable lot recommend? Deposits on things shouldnt be too much but obviously the Instant arrival of £300-£500 isnt likely. Thanks in advance!

The best option here is to talk to the retailers - specialists might be more likely to offer terms. However, bear in mind that your recent bouncing up and down teh ratings might count against you.

Can you not source second hand kit, or save some money in the short term?
