received tax rebate today but name spelt incorrectly

in Cutting tax
Hi there
I just received a check from the inland revenue today for a nice amount! but my name has been spelt incorrectly. Tried to ring them today but due to industrial action the lines are going to br understaffed till wednesday. Does anyone know what the procedure is?

    You may have sorted this by now, but if not, I'd ask how bad is the incorrect spelling? If close, I'd pay it in and see if it gets rejected.

    thanks. I rang up the HMRC and they are going to send a new cheque anyway. they had my surname as MCXXXX not MACXXXX also they only had my first initial rather than my first name so that really could be anyone in the banks eyes! Anyway shall look forward to spending it when it finally arrives!!!
