Hi

Heading down to Dumfries and Galloway this weekend with the kids for a long weekend. Our first time staying down there so looking forward to exploring the area. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do/places to go??? We like beaches (as we have a dog) and I've already heard good things about the Cream of Galloway.

Also if anyone knows of good places to eat etc...please share your thoughts. Nothing too expensive please :-) we're on a tight budget.

Thanks in advance.

Its a number of years since we were there but I would say that is a must! Sadly we didn't have many good meals down that way and it was before we had a dog so no recommendations on that front either!

Try Portpatrick- lovely village, cosy pubs, music sometimes, and great walks over cliffs to wee beaches; Killantringan beach nearby too. Sandhead ,7 miles away, has a fabulous beach, one of the best in the area and nice tearoom! Stranraer is a bit grubby ,but surrounding area and villages really nice.Lots of camping available budget-wise. Enjoy!!:)

definately recommend Mabie Farm Park, the kids will be entertained all day. Cream of Galloway is good, but was not ideal for our wee grandson who is 3, it seemed better for older kids
    Every days a School day!
  • we went to cream o galloway when my daughter was 3, she loved it, she enjoyed the ice cream tour and sampling the ice cream, plus there is a play area indoors and she enjoyed the go carts, although we were exhausted pedalling while she just sat shouting out directions, she also enjoyed our wee picnic and the swing park and the wooden climbing frame /tower

Portpatrick is a lovely place for walks, along the old railway to the Abbey there.

Also a cool guided tour around a Hydroelectric station in Kirkudbright (Kerr-coo-bree) for a decent price, you get to see just about everything.

Mull of Galloway has a nice lighthouse to tour around, plus they have palm trees there, being in the gulf stream and all. :)
