They are saving the charity administration costs so it's hardly wasting your fee. However the rest of the year they waste it on crap programs and paying Terry Wogan to host Children in Need!!!!£2009 wins - Vodkat Cocktail kit :j

Surely we then pay either way? One way the charity deducts it from the total we put in, and this way we pay anyway as we all fund the BBC.
I'd be careful in case you are libelling Wogan - does he get paid to host CinN? Or does he give his time free for that event?0 -

We do pay, but its not a watse of our fee, it's going to help a good cause. And yes he does get paid. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_headline=wogan-s-fee-fury--&method=full&objectid=18749201&siteid=66633-name_page.html

With Comic Relief, the cost for all the merchandise, webcasting etc. is borne by the corporate sponsors (Sainsbury et. al.) who in return for their hard work get multiple plugs by the BBC on the night - when else can you get "advertising" on the BBC? - and of course creates good PR for them.
I'm reasonably sure the BBC bears the cost of filming programmes, putting on the entertainment shows but it's not an extra cost per se since they have all the staff, resources, camerapeople etc. on pay anyway so that's all a fixed cost which has to be paid whether Comic Relief is on or not.
So all your money donations-wise does go to the good causes.
As for Wogan, no idea why he's getting paid since £8k isn't that much for a guy who earns at least £5m per year, and he himself said he doesn't want the money.0 -
Is RND the BBC's own invention or was it someone elses? Y doesn't ITV, or even SKY get involved with it?0

Comic Relief is a British charity organisation that was founded in the United Kingdom in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis in response to famine in Ethiopia.
Currently, its two main supporters are the BBC and Sainsbury's. The BBC is responsible for the live television extravaganza on Red Nose Day and Sainsbury's sells merchandise on behalf of the charity.

Well that shouldn't be right, he should do it for free or donate his 'fee'. I'd also prefer to watch Eastenders instead of stuff like this, I pay my licence fee but have no say in how it's used, which isn't right either.0 -

Couldn't he say no then(to the money) or donate it to charity?I loathe Terry Wogan, he's got to be the smarmiest man ever to appear on our screens. Who is actually a Terry Wogan fan?
