Child's Olympic project ideas?

My 7 year old son has to do a project on the 2012 Olympic games.

The letter from school said it could be anything from a PowerPoint presentation to a model of the Olympic stadium and anything in between.

As any other busy mum time is always short but I want to make this project fun and also so my Ds can actually learn something, not just for one-up-manship

Does anyone have any non obvious ideas.? I've thought about doing an Olympic timeline but it'd be massive or maybe the history of the torch?

Just looking for some suggestions and inspiration.

Thanks

Do a timeline of one particular sport, perhaps... and, if appropriate, a simple bar chart showing how distances/speeds achieved have improved over time.

Fairy cakes or biscuits with one sport represented on each. A great project that you can eat afterwards!

  • Do they have to do a presentation on it? How about dressing up as an ancient Greek athlete (white sheet), make an olive wreath out of pipe cleaners and paper leaves & tell the story of the First Greek games? Or paint a picture of a large Greek urn - like those that depict the events at the first Greek games? A timeline of host cities by colouring flags from that country? Or make a model chariot from a foam cup? Look at the website ehow, there's instructions on how to do it.
  • Ooops! Sorry, I've just noticed your post says 2012 Olympic Games! Just ignore that then!

From my 7yr old D.S perspective, who is LEGO craaaaazy why don't you get the Olympic LEGO mini figures due in shops July 1st and he can say which figure is which sport if he is confident to give a talk or just hold them up.There are 9 in the collection.

Ooh like the Lego idea. Could he also make a lego torch, not as big as the real one but a good size.
