Is it possible to make a bit of extra money through proof reading As part of my main job I do a lot of proof reading for students and I have a degree and PGCE along with grade A A Level English so am qualified.
What is the best way to get into this? Is it best to look for any agency? Any good ones?

Try the writer's artist' yearbook. It has list of publishing houses, both great and small. Full addresses and telephone numbers.0

I think your first step should be a formal course in the subject.
Not trying to be mean, but it leaps out of the page and it is a subject you have to be 100% correct in.0 -
Firstly, many courses in this field relate to old-style physical mark-up rather than the modern use of tracking changes within software. It would be very easy to waste your money.
Secondly, do you wish to become a proofreader or a copy-editor? These are two different things. Within what area/s are you considering working? Do you have specialist subject knowledge - medicine, accounting, etc? If not, you'll find it almost impossible to find openings.
I would recommend a great deal of research before spending any money.0 -
If you're happy to freelance then you could try websites like elance.com. Somke people make a decent living from clients they found there - though it's quite difficult to get established and compete with people who'll work for pennies.0
